UKSentinel
I'm off to Turkey in 2 weeks and a mate said you have to put a crisp tenner in your passport to give to immigration when you get off the plane. I thought he was taking the Michael, but everyone I've asked reckons this is right. I've just rung Thomsons up to ask and it was a matter of "oh yes, it's for the visa entry" When challenged about it, the girl said "you can find out about it on the net somewhere" Never heard such an answer in my life! I challenged why they'd neglected to tell me at the time of booking, neglected to print this on my confirmation form and neglected to print this anywhere in the ticket booklet. What a joke!! To add even further insult to injury, I booked this 2 weeks ago, the day before the bombings and the exact same holiday, flights, hotel etc is now 300 quid cheaper. To coin a Catherine Tate phrase "What a F**king liberty!"

When we went over in 2005 for the European Cup Final we were exempt from the charge - probably because of the amount of money we were set to spend in Istanbul. The stamp I have in my passport from that trip is very cool; "24 Hour Champions League Final VISA - UEFA" or something similar.

dieselbabe
Yes it is true its for a 3m visa pass. I go over quiet a few times for many years now and i rember the first time i went over i knew it cost £10 for each person but no one told me back then it had to be £10 note each as i was trying to get myself and my child in with £20 note and it was not aloud. Also make sure it is not rip too much as also my freind was no aloud throuh when his note was riped like what shop do over in the UK to make sure it is real. It kicked of a storm and threw it back at him. lucky tho we go in with some help for anouther person who was waiting in the que. I think its wrong in some ways when they moan about the money how it is when it is not in tack but i belive they should add it in when you booked and payed for your holliday it save you a lot of hassle and not waiting about in a hallway waiting to get your bags and get your coach. sarah1
Yep it's right.. you have to pay a tenner per person to get into Turkey.. If you can, be sure to get off the plane ASAP cos the queue's for the visa can be VERY long depending on how many planes have landed round about the same time as yours.. jimmy
Lots of countries have entry/exit "tariffs". Just so they can make a few extra quid from the tourists. For Thailand it's 1000 Baht (about 17 quid) which you have to pay before you go through passport control on the way out.
