nick2
Surely your medical condition overrides your financial possition ?
tia1803
yes thats true but as we cannot get help and will have to buy ourselves then is it right to at least have had the opportunity with the council do you think as we cannot afford otherwise and the syha is more money with no right to buy
Ms Macbeth
If you need to move for genuine medical reasons then I would have thought you'd take the house being offered. If the maisonette is unsuitable why would you wish to buy it? If you have waited 6 years and not been awarded any priority on medical grounds, do you think its likely that you will get it in the near future? You say you cannot get help, do you mean help to move to a suitable house? If that is what you mean, then SYHA has surely offered just that. Tenant's will be subject to a Medical Priority assessment which will take into account their physical abilities and personal circumstances. Supporting letters from GP's etc will be taken into account, but it is by no means a guarentee.

Smartsmurf is correct - and Medical Priority isn't awarded unless it is really necessary, ie someone needs ground floor accommodation as they can't climb stairs. Often, adaptations to the tenant's home can solve some problems - putting in a stairlift, or even something as simple as grab rails over the bath. There is an assumption by some people that if Medical Priority is given its a passport to a better property - or a different area. This isn't the case - its an assessment of how a medical condition affects a person's ability to live in their home - and can be used to move to a different type of property - but it could be in the same street unless the condition dictates you need to move areas (could be some mental health issues). Also, having one council property is no guarantee of getting another one, especially if its considered adequate for your needs. helenbean, what's wrong with SYHA?
