Deavon
I can't believe the arrogance of these people to presume to remove the democratically elected Prime Minister of this country and replace him with the Chancellor Gordon Brown. Haven't we got a say in this? It's enough to make you vote Tory!
Agent Orange
We never get a say in any leadership contest unless, of course, you are an MP and/or member of the said party.

SupraSteve
Erm, the elected party (and indeed any of the other parties!) can change its leader whenever they want. Every party does it.
Deavon
The thing is, GB is a proper "tax and spend" socialist, only reigned in by the Blairites. Imagine what damage he will do if given the top job. (He's already raised taxes 80 times as chancellor). This will be a serious change of governance. I don't think people realise that point. He won't carry on with Blair's centre left policies.
SupraSteve
Thinking that someone from the same party may.may not have different ways of running it is totally different to saying, 'why don't we get a say in who leads Labour next?' I'm afriad that's the way the country elects and governs itself, it couuld easily be happening the other way round and there isn't much we can do about it. Don't lose sleep would be my advice! For what it's worth though, I don't think any new leader of the country will raise taxes when they come into power just ~18 months before a general election, so you'll get your say (vote) before he does/doesn't make his mark on things, I'm sure. Yes, but if he follows his leftist roots, he'll be taxing the rich - which is fine by me
Hopman
Whether or not a leader is "fit for the purpose" I don't believe that they should be able to hand over power to anyone of their choosing without the new leader being voted in by the members. In this current case, for some time now everyone has been saying "when Blair hands over to Brown", but surely the new leader needs electing?
