How do I know what sound card I have??

I want to buy a lead to connect my PC to my LCD TV. The man in the shop asked me to look at the back of the TV to work out which lead I need, also what sound card I have in my PC!

So, how do I know? Is there any preferences or anything I can look at that will tell me. My PC is a typical PC World P'bell - about 5-yrs old.

Thanks

Matt

I don't see why you need to know what sound card you have. He might want to know what audio outputs you have, although if it's a 5 year old pc, you've probably got a single speaker out and a line out and that's it.

You'll also have a standard analogue vga out video port. Is it a new lcd tv with an hdmi or dvi input? If not, then the picture quality isn't going to be great.

The back of my box does seem to have a singe speaker output (round hole). My TV is brand new - I've taken a photo of the back to take to the shop, however, it does have a HDMI/DVI in and a DVI in R and L Audio. Below them is also two 'PC IN' and two R and L Audio out.

Thanks

Assuming XP : Either...

Start - Settings - Control Panel - System - Hardware - Device Manager - Sound, Video and Game Controllers....and it's listed there,

or...

Start - Programs - Accessories - System Tools - System Information - Components - Sound Device...it's listed there, too...

you'll just want your basic 3.5mm stereo to 2 x RCA lead for audio

the only reason you would use something different is if you have either optical out or coaxial digital out... which is highly unlikely with an old P'Bell system

for video it'll either be VGA -> VGA unless it has either an S-Video or video phono output... or highly unlikely due to the age of the machine, DVI
