AYBABTU
The council is considering publishing online all hygiene inspections of takeaways / restaurants etc online along with ratings and any recommendations. Can I urge you all to go to the link and then email them to say what a good idea this would be? http://www.sheffield.gov.uk/environment/how-we-work/health-protection/hygiene-inspection-scores We only ever hear about extreme cases (e.g. crosspool tavern) but what about other scruffy places? Having this info in the public eye can only lead to cleaner premises. They also link to a similar scheme called scores on the doors. http://www.scoresonthedoors.org.uk which already covers various other city councils. Just sent Mr Green at the council an e-mail supporting this initiative which as you say must improve things for us all in the long run.
lucy25
That is a great idea. It would stop places getting away with poor hygiene standards

okka north
Excellent idea. After watching a programme about 'grime' and health and safety people, it showed a takeaway on the Wicker. AHHHH . It was bad.
martin1print
Yes, I am anxious to know what happened at Crosspool Tavern. I drink there but lucky (I suppose) I don't eat there. Please enlighten us.

martin1print
Thanks Skinner. I will avoid eating anything in the Tavern then. Your thread title is very interesting. I'm surprised it has received such a small response. I enjoy eating in pubs and would welcome any information on hygiene. A few years back I remember the Balti King in Broomhill getting a fine of £7,000 due to mice in the kitchen, despite repeated warnings by health inspectors to clean up. I've never set foot in there since.
mystie
Great idea and I told the council so. Not suprised to hear the story about Balti king, everybody I know has a horror story about them.
purdyamos
I have done my civic duty and emailed them! This idea works on two fronts - to reassure and advise the public, and as an incentive to businesses to keep their noses clean, as it were. Why should we rely on TV documentaries to see what really goes on behind the counters?
