Handing romantic notes to strangers

Recommended Posts

Did anyone see the article in the Metro this morning? Apparently the trendy new way to find a partner is, if you see someone you fancy on the train or bus, simply hand them a note saying something like "fancy going for a drink some time" with your mobile number underneath. The (female) writer of the article has apparently done this several times and never been rebuffed.

Now I know the Metro is written by desperately trendy London metrosexuals but while this kind of thing may be fine down south, if you did this in South Yorkshire you'd either get stared at as if you were some kind of nutter or arrested for sexual harassment!

So has anyone ever tried this, and if so what was the result?

I think I might have done that in Primary school once....

Or floored with a well aimed kick to the groin.... :)

It's a very cute idea and I could see it working in various parts of Sheffield...although there are some assumptions and ground rules. Firstly, that your writing is legible, and secondly that your target can read. :)

It sounds a bit like school really doesn't it. You'd send notes saying 'my mate fancies you' and the like.

Still I'd be more than flattered if someone did it to me, and I can see the appeal, it's pretty daring in a discrete manner.

Exactly! Handing them a note?! If you're going to go to the trouble of doing that, why not just say something to them?

I think I'd view the writer of the note as being probably a little eccentric, if not actually rather strange. Depends on how attractive he was though :hihi: .

Hmmm handing a note to a stranger on the bus... what a lovely way to say "I can't afford to pick you up for our date because I don't have a car but will you go out with me anyway" :hihi:

I think it's a brilliant idea! Nothing ventured, nothing gained, and all that.

That way, you never know, a beautiful friendship might blossom, where both parties might have been too shy to start up a conversation with each other in front of strangers. Minimal embarrassment, and if the 'target' of the note is involved elsewhere, then they just don't need to ring the number, rather than having to turn someone down in public.

Nice one!
