New camera / loading software problem

can anyone help please . i am so dismayed

i will try and keep this short ok

bought a new lumicron camera 8 mega pixel off , e bay , the camera is wonderful , takes fab pics , and really pleased , however , after loading up the software , it wouldn't give me the option to down load pics from the camera

anyway , i had my friend over , he is really good with all this stuff , he couldn't get it to work either , he took all the camera and software , and tried to load in on to his , with no joy at all

the seller has been great , i even sent the camera back and he replaced it in case it was a fault with that , the seller and my friend suggested a memory card reader , so my friend had a look on e-bay and it arrived yesterday , i loaded up the software thinking my problems were over , but all that did was delete all the pics off my memory card

my computer is about 3 years old and runs on windows xp , never had any problems before with other camera's of the same make ,

just can't understand it , i am completely stunned and upset

the only thing that has shown up that is different is that a high speed hub is required to make the items run at full performance , do i have to buy one of these ??? would that work , just don't know what to do for the best

does anyone have any idea's at all

i totally appreciate any help offered , many thanks in advance ,

sharon x

If you plug the camera in and double click (or open from start menu) "my computer" can you see the camera as a removable drive? If you can you can copy the photos by double clicking the drive and dragging them into another folder/desktop, I never use my camera software its rubbish, I use irfanview and paint shop pro.

When you plug the card reader into the pc, you should get a message box saying new hardware detected, windows does its thing, when it's finished, plug the card into the reader and a popup box shouls appear, asking what you want to do with the pictures. They should be quicker to transfer to the pc this way.

thank you all very much for your help , i am still stuck , if i just plug the camera in , my comp dosn't recognise it at all , and that when the bubble comes up about this product would run more effiecient if connected to a high speed 2.0 hub , then for a list of availabe ports , click here , when i do that , it says no high speed hub available on this computer

i have never got anthing up with either the camera , or the card reader that asks me what i want to do with the photo's .......

with my other camera , when i plugged that in , it came straight up on screen , do you want to download pics from your camera , simple .... never had any problems ,

when i downloaded the software for the camera , all was great until i got to the stage where it said to download pics from camera select ....... from folder button , (did that ), then browse , did that ....... then click removable disc , ............ couldn't do that , as it wasn't on the list , thens when the trouble started

sorry to be a pain , i do appreiate it , anyone think they could sort this , i am very welcome for you to try ,

thank you again

sharon , i am sure it's something simple , if only i could sort it

I know this might sound dozy, but my work PC has 2 usb2 on back and 2 usb 1.1 on front (god knows why) If you are using the front ports you may have some ports on back and they might be usb2 - worth a go.

The simple [and fastest] way to get images off your camera is to remove memory card from camera and place it in a suitable USB 2.0 card reader and drag the files to where you want them using Windows Explorer.

The images that were deleted are probably still recoverable, unless you filled card up again. But even then you may get some back.

Most people do not plug camera in to retrieve images, they fetch them off the memory card using a card reader. Which also means you can shoot more pix whilst loading pix onto computer if you have a second card. Which is advisable anyway, esp as they are so cheap now.

You should have USB2 on a 3yr old computer but if not you can get it intalled either at back of case or in front if you have room. They are quite cheap or you could install a card reader next to your CD/DVD player,

Check here for an example [and how to do it]
