Equipment Advice for Spanish Walking Holiday

As the title reads really!!

I'm off to Spain in a fortnight for a gentle walking holiday in the Sierra Nevada region. We're staying in hotels/guesthouses and have planned the itinerary so that we are in a town each night so I don't need to take any sleeping bags, tents, cooking equipment etc.

Basically I was just wondering what people recommend I take with me? I was thinking simply changes of underwear, 1, maybe 2 pairs of trousers, the same again pairs of shorts, and a few vest tops, light jumpers and a heavier jumper (so I can layer if chilly!)

Also I need a new pair of trainers for the trip and was wondering if anybody can recommend a decent pair? It's a fairly gentle plan as we're taking my 13 year old sister, so don't need any specialist features, just something that's not going to fall apart at first use!!!

Any advice appreciated!

whatever level of walking you're doing, (and I'm speaking from experience here), make sure you have a pair of shoes/boots up to the job ;)

I have several pairs of boots - 3 season, summer, and a pair of Regatta trainer/boot hybrid things for dog walking (less serious stuff). I thought my dog walking boots would be adequate for the mainly park walking we did a couple of weekends ago (see thread by Taxman), but by the end of it I had a nasty cramp right the way through the sole of one foot.

If you're going to wear trainers, you need something like Merrel ones

I'd also consider a platypus or camelback for spain, and make sure you have suitable headgear for keeping the sun off - sunstroke is reet nasty (CCC have some lightweight baseball cap thingies treated with anti-mozzie stuff and with a neck cover bit - a bit like the foreign legion uniform ;) )

Get the trainers now, today, and try to wear them in a bit. You will be completely stuffed if the shoes become too difficult to walk in.

My advice on keeping warm and dry would be to take a lightweight fleece and a good quality Gore-Tex PacMac.

Umm... insect repellant perhaps and check out the drinking water situation.

I would get down to CCCs near Bramall lane, they'll know all the answers and be able to supply the gear at a reasonable price.
