Materazzi: Classic!

Fair enough zidane then!!

those of us with sisters would appreciate, in my opinion, that zidane would react that way. Materazzi is a bit of a fool saying that to start with, no wonder he got headbutted.

Roy keane knows how to do it in style, he got sent off for a shove against Alan Shearer, saw the red card, then wellied him in the face!

Don't be absurd the only fool is Zidane who massively overreacted to a generic bit of banter and lost his team the game.

If a guy expressed a desire to get to know my sister during a game I’d try to get him back by playing well and doing everything possible to ensure that he was on the losing team. Lashing out like Zidane did is exactly the wrong thing to do and played entirely into Materazzi’s hands.

...Nah just belt him :D

Im not saying its acceptable, but i can see how it could quite easily happen. If you decide to start to disrespect someones family 'banter' or not, which is bloody stupid anyway, whats the point in banter? ur asking for trouble.

Glen McGrath of Austrailia cricket nearly knocked someones teeth out becasue they took the P*** out of his terminally ill wife.

I'm surprised he didn't simply knock him out. :D

The point of banter is that it can put opposition players off their game, if they’re complete idiots (like Zidane) it can even wind them up so much that they’ll get themselves sent off.

Winding opposing players up may well be a/immoral and unsporting behaviour but it isn’t ‘bloody stupid’ if it helps you win the game which it did in this case, the only stupid person in this situation is Zidane.

Can you really not see the difference between a generic bit of off the cuff banter and the premeditated mocking of a terminally ill loved one?

so if someone deliberatly too the P out of someone in your family excessivly in a stressful situation, youd stand there and take it, and not do anything?

Dont give me all this tosh about the point of banter...the twit who invented this sort of behavoir clearly didnt have half a brain cell. Using 'wit' to control a game of skill is certainly not clever, and quite frankly i did think materazzi deserved it. Zidane should rightfully be sent off, no questions about that, but before you criticise him, think of the situation and stress he was in, representing his NATION.

If someone tried that line on me I'd respond by saying something along the lines of

'you've got no chance as she's got a lot going for her and wouldn't give a gibbering moron who can't come up with a better attempt to wind me up than 'I'd like to shag your sister' the time of day'

I most certainly wouldn't do him a favour by getting myself sent off.

How is using ''wit' to control a game of skill is certainly not clever? Materazzi's lame wind up got Zidane a significantly better player than him and keystone of the french team sent off and helped Italy win the world cup, seems pretty clever to me.

Oh no - Not England golden boy-great professional-role model Alan Shearer?

If there is one player I was happy to have seen retired, it was that man. How the media made him out to be the golden boy of our time was sickening. He was a cheat, a mardy arse and remember the Neil Lennon incident back in 1997/98 season when he blackmailed the F.A.
