BT broadband new 'fair usage' policy introduced today

I chose to go with a 1 yr contract with BT Business Broadband as they offered unlimited bandwidth, and had no fair usage policy at all in their business internet range. Imagine how horrified I was to receive a standard email notice of a T and C update this morning, which states they are now operating a FAIR USAGE policy on the business package I am on, specifically targeting peak hour users and fans of peer to peer software, threatening reduction in download speeds for peer 2 peer users and even account suspension for excessive usage!!!!!

How can they just bring this in when I signed up for a truly unlimited service and pay £30 PCM for this service. Can I cancel my contract as they now provide a service different to what I paid for?

From what I read (I'm on the same BT Business Broadband contract) you'd proabably have to have a HELL of a lot of traffic before the fair usage policy kicks in.

I've not got too much of a problem with fair usage - if someone is spending their online lives downloading stacks of stuff and impacting on my speeds, why shouldn't they be reigned in a little?

Yes I agree, but they really needed to spell this out at the beginning and not just add it when they feel iike it, although I am sure they reserve the right to change things at will. I mean I run an FTP and web server which could fall into such 'fair usage' trap, but they still dont say I cant run them, which is somewhat strange, as they just target p2p software users in the main.

Does every ISP now have a Fair Usage clause in their so called unlimited packages?

as a bt business user. i only had one query re: the changes, if the accounts are corporate/business.why should peak be 6-11pm. surely as business people the majority would be working 9-5 from home.

donwloading peer to peer could be classed as personal and not business usage.or are there millions of businesses who need to download p2p files?
