raganoonande
Just a word of warning to anyone who is going on a beach holiday in the UK, while we've still a bit of summer left. I've just been on holiday for a week to North Wales/Nefyn, was playing and paddling in the exceptionally warm sea on Nefyn Beach, and I was stung! by what I believe may have been a Weaver Fish. I have to say it was bloody horrible! I thought I had stepped on a piece of sharp glass, and I winced in pain, tried to carry on paddling, and then was struck down by the most horrendous crippling pain. I was actually crying at one point it was that bad. I was bit scared too, as I thought I might have stepped on some deadly animal, and there was no first aid people anywhere. The only way to describe the pain was - imagine someone has just whipped your foot with a cane, that instant pain you feel, like that but it doesn't lose its intensity for about 2 hours. The one thing that did take the pain off, and was a beautiful relief, was when I put my foot in a sinkful of really really hot water, the pain then subsided, and I walk fine on it after a while. So be careful if you are going to paddle in the sea, I'm only going to paddle with footwear on now, I don't want a repetition of that pain! penny_crayon
I was stung by one a few years ago, and yes it absolutely kills!! I sympathise with you! I did feel slightly better about it when I went out for dinner a couple of nights later and very much enjoyed the daily special - weaver fish!! penny_crayon
Oooh I didn't think of that somehow!! I always wear those little wetsuit sock things in the sea now, or flipflops if paddling. Never know what you are standing on!
