okka north
Is it my son or do playstations not last very long? We are now on our third playstation and each time the motor drive for turning the disk has died a death in the 13th month of it's life. It is always just after the warranty has run out. I appreciate that it gets used alot, but shouldn't they last a bit longer?

Mr Goose
Sounds like you have had bad luck. My household PS2 has been given a reet bashing (The Goose family numbers 5) for 4+ years and shows no signs of wearing out. The only problem has been the wear and tear on the hand controllers. We have got through 5 so far. My advice is - dont buy the cheapo non-brand ones, just stick to the sony ones. The PS3 is due out in November - so dont replace your old PS2 yet - the price of 2nd hand playstation 2s will fall through the floor. It will be cheaper to buy another than to have your old one repaired....

okka north
I've got two I've had the bigger one for five years now, with no problems whatsoever. It is only me and my son. It must be the way we are handling it or perhaps to much dust where it is sitting.

Grissom
Have you been using the CD drawer as a coffee cup holder ? Its not good for the life of the unit. Example of incorrect use on a computer is here : http://www.japandesign.ne.jp/HTM/JDNREPORT/sotsuten2002/kidi/img/5.jpg I remember using the memory slot on the BBC Micro as a biscuit holder. Oh those were the days
