Store cards - Don't want one

Recommended Posts

I can't seem to go into a shop without being pressed by the sales assistant to have one of their cards. I don't want one. I can now pre-empt when they are going to ask me and I firmly but politely say no thankyou. Yet, they press me and state how good they are and the discounts I will receive. Leave me alone, I just want to buy what I came in for and leave. When I say no thankyou they look at me as if there is something wrong with me. What is wrong with not wanting to be in debt?

I don't seem to get asked but if they do ask I just say 'no thankyou' and carry on the purchase. They never press it. I suppose there may be some assistants that desperately want/need that bit of commission but I haven't come across them!

If you're going to spend a large amount( BUT not on credit) and they offer a decent discount if you take a card, do what I did.

Get the discount and the card, then wait a while and close the account.

Trouble is, if you do that a lot, the credit companies will take a very dim view of it. Be careful about messing up your credit rating by doing that.
