tingle
Hello I took my boyfriend on a surprise trip to Knowsley Safari Park at the weekend. We were v keen to have a monkey on the car so were both delighted when not one but two hopped onto the bonnet of my Nissan Micra. I was less delighted when one started ganwing at the little black plastic thing that the spray comes out of. I honked, I started moving, I tapped on the window - all to no avail! It was a determined monkey on a mission. Anyway, it only gave up when it pulled the spray thing right off and now neither sprayer will spray. Obviously it's really dangerous to drive if you can't wash your windscreen, so I need to get it fixed- can anyone forewarn me as to how much it will cost? Also his mate nicked off with a wheel trim. Is that what they're called? The silver disc on the wheel anyway - how much is a scrap one of them for a Micra? Is it really necessary? Thank you!! SupraSteve
Washer jets don't cost much - a few pence/pound from most motor factors (shops!). They usually just snap into place - if you have a freindly parts section of a local Nissan garage they'd probably sell it to you and fit it for free. If you really wanted you can get ones that light up, but they're very chavvy! Wheel trims are there just to make the car look nice - it's up to you if you want to replace it or not but typically they come in sets of 4, it's tricky to buy just 1 unless, as you suggest, you try a scrap/breakers/salvage yard. Good luck!
tingle
Oh fab thank you, that is a huge relief! And at least now you've told me that, I can go elsewhere if the mechanic starts shaking his head and going, "Oh that's a big job...." Not bothered about the wheel trim and certainly would go out of my way not to have anything that lights up on my car! I got off lightly really, a guy driving out in front of us had lost his entire back number plate and others had lost their wipers. It was like the walking wounded, returning from war as opposed to cars filing out of the baboon area. Anyway, thanks for your quick response and advice! x
NPB!
didn't get any trouble from the Ostriches then? I was driving a hired Mini Bus and one had a pop at the windscreen lol
tingle
Yeah, we did have an ostrich encounter. They are such comical animals, waddling about the way they do. One came up to the car but it was on my boyfriend's side, trying to peck him trough the galss and peering at him while rubbing its feathery mass against my car. Anyway, just got my car back and it was only a tenner! Thank you SupraSteve, you were right that it didn't cost much at all. Haven't replaced the wheel trim cos I don't see why people have them anyway if they don't serve any purpose. Must admit, I driving out of Hillsborough Leisure Centre this morning and there were two wheel trims on the central reservation. Was v tempted to hop out and see if they were Micra ones but then I remembered that I wasn't a tramp and carried on driving.
SupraSteve
You're more than welcome, glad you got it sorted with minimal fuss. lol @ "remembered I wasn't a tramp" Thinking about it, it might be worth asking the park owners ift hey reclaim all the items from the monkeys - (I don't suppose they let it mount up and up?) - you might get your original wheel trim back! tingle
No, apparently the monkeys get very territorial over their loot. I told a girl in work about my escapades of the weekend and she said she saw a programme about Longleat Safari Park where they were chopping down an old, rotting tree in the monkey enclosure. Anyway, the monkeys were going loopy over this and, when they chopped it, they found that it was hollow and stuffed full of wing mirrors, wipers, number plates and the suchlike. Don't know whether it's true but it's a good story.

The monkeys collect the parts and when they have enough they build a car. This car is known as a Daewoo Matiz lol
