GabbleRatcht
I have a program that I belive was written for Windows ME, but my XP SP2 won't run it. I have set the compatability to 98/ME, but still get an error message from windows ' 16 bit Windows subsystem'. Message is ' C:\windows\system32\autoexec.nt. The system file is not suitable for running MS-DOS and Microsoft Windows applications ' The prog runs fine one my mates XP computer but not mine. Can any one tell me whats wrong? JoeP
I THINK that this is caused by one of the files required for running 16 bit applications being identified as spyware / trojan or virus by some types of AV and pop-up blocking software. This is why it would work on your friend's PC. Just make sure that the file autoexec.nt. does in fact exist where it's supposed to be - the path given abov. If not, then your AV sofwtare has pooped on it - I'm afraid I'm not up to speed on where to get a new one from.
Rich
And this is why I was reluctant to put SP2 on my pooter but my IT Consultant Brother insisted... I have a LOT of pre-Windows 98 and DOS based PC games in my collection, but now thanks to XP and SP2, hardly any of them except Duke Nukem 3D work any more, and there was some good games in the collection as well, interactive movies such as Under a Killing Moon, Wing Commander 3 etc which now don't work under XP And I can't even sell them on eBay to get rid of them for that very reason, they won't work on anybody's PC unless they got a fairly old system by today's standards. GabbleRatcht
Thanks Joe Autoexec.nt was indeed missing on my laptop. Stole it from desktop and now all is fine. Should have thought of that myself;) Thanks!
