Yootha   10 #28 Posted September 8, 2006 I've never heard of this. What is it?  "From the books of Peter Tinniswood come one of television's greatest comedy families, The Brandons.  There's miserable pessimist Uncle Mort, his sharp-tongued sister Annie who is constantly arguing with husband Les, their laid-back son Carter and his not so laid-back wife Pat, and finally old Uncle Stavely who carries his friend's ashes around his neck in a box and only enters the constant bickering with a cry of 'I 'eard that! Pardon?'"  Shot in and around Sheffield in the mid to late 70's..  http://www.play.com/DVD/DVD/4-/1099138/I_Didn_t_Know_You_Cared_Complete_Series_1_4_Box_Set/Product.html
 Share this content via...
pietro   10 #29 Posted September 9, 2006 Heres my two-penneth for what its worth.  The canal lock is the flight of locks at Tinsley. If you hav'nt been, get yourself down there on a nice day, its so peaceful!. Has anyone else noticed that there is only one cooling tower in mario's picture, wonder when the other was built.  Present day: http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v130/wharncliffe/Knowyoucared004.jpg  The canal scenes are at the back of Don Valley stadium. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v130/wharncliffe/Knowyoucared011.jpg  http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v130/wharncliffe/Knowyoucared022.jpg  The cemetery, I think we are looking from just past Wardsend cemetery, the building in the centre is Bassetts sweet factory, with Crookes and Walkley in the distance. On my photo you can just make out the top of the factory above the trees, probably wrong though.  http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v130/wharncliffe/Knowyoucared033.jpg
 Share this content via...

pietro   10 #33 Posted September 10, 2006 Stranger and stranger!  There is definitely only one cooling tower in Marios picture (1970's), however there are two towers in the 1960's  http://www.picturesheffield.com/cgi-bin/picturesheffield.pl?_cgifunction=form&_layout=picturesheffield&keyval=sheff.refno=u01790  Mario's http://www.yootha.com/unclemort/images/grab/S1E4_Outdoors_River_1.JPG What happened in the intervening years? algy   11 #35 Posted September 14, 2006 Stranger and stranger! Mystery solved. In a later episode on the canal bank, there's a wider angle shot, which shows both the big cooling towers, but behind them and to the right is a smaller one, and this is the one in the photo. In fact looking more closely it looks more like a furnace than a cooling tower. The photo doesn't in fact show either of the two big towers we know and love!
