Zebra
I've recently had some problems with fruit making my throat swell up and I'm I'm getting a little worried. The research I've done online shows that guava and orange are from the same IgE group and could be the cause. Well, that's ok but I can'd find what other fruits are in the same groups. I love fruit and I don't want to not eat it but anaphylactic shock is kinda life threatening so I think I had better know what's going on. Also, if you have got a similar allergy, how old where you when it began? Have you been tested at a doctors? What do you do to prevent anaphylaxis? Thanks to anyone who can help
kittenta
I get this if I eat oranges. It feels like I have something stuck in my throat. Lasts for quite a few hours too, maybe I should stop eating them! I like fruit and have had many different fruits but only found oranges causing this problem. Let me know if you find anything out! GrinderBloke
Adrenalin is generally administered, using an EpiPen as an emergency measure. I did a first aid course at work and they explained about using EpiPens, yikes I know they are life savers, but the thought of jabbing a big needle into someones thigh! Zebra you need to consult your GP.
Zebra
Yeah Ive seen how to use an EpiPen, had to have one for a kid I worked with who was allergic to nuts, never had to use it though. I wil go to the GP but I read that they don't have to help identify which ones, just provide EpiPens and tell me to steer clear

Apparently oranges and kiwi are common problems and that anyone allergic to them is generally allergic to latex as well at it shares the same IgE group somehow, something to do with the proteins my friend tells me.... not my department. melthebell
when i was a kid i used to be allergic to all orange stuff including oranges and juice. my mum used to periodically test oranges on me to either a: kill me off or b: see if id overcome the allergy. i did overcome the allergy after a while and i have become a law abiding orange eating member of the public since

Tartempion
Something strange happened to me the other day... I was eating a grapefruit and my lips suddenly started swelling up! I looked like whatserface - trout pout woman - Lesley Ash! I had to phone the NHS helpline cos it had happened so suddenly and it had really freaked me out. They didn't seem to think it was any cause to panic though and luckily it started to go down after an hour or so. It was really wierd though. I've eaten grapefruit loads of times before and this has never happened to me. Someone suggested it might have been a reaction to pesticides. Very peculiar... KingMaker
I always had a problem with oranges and orange juice. When I was a small kid I couldn't understand why Orange or even orange squosh always made me want to start coughing, not violently but it happened on a consistent basis. The trouble was that we were all encourage to eat lots of oranges because of their vitamin C content so when I refused to eat oranges my parents thought I was being awkward! I can now smell anyone who has eaten an orange at 100 paces!
