It all depends what you want to train for - general fitness or a specific sport. Before starting off with weights I would do some exercises that use your own body weight as resistance - lunges, sit ups, bridges, maybe build them up into a circuit. Then I would move on to light resistance, such as light weights or resistance bands. Don't be in a rush to jump straight into weight training, your body is still growing. It's good to hear you're taking an interest in strength, make sure you consult someone before starting any sort of programme. Don't copy routines from glossy mags, have a chat with someone like a PE teacher or gym instructor and they will set up along the right course.

Great to hear you want to train & glad that you're wanting advise. go4it is absolutely right. Your still growing and improper use of weights can cause problems, resistance bands & tubes are a good way to get started, combined with press ups/pull ups etc using your own body weight. Just as important though is diet. Without the right fuel you won't grow, so eat well & cut out the junk! As personal trainers we are more than happy to give free advise. At your age just stick to your own body weight, press ups, pull up, squats, make sure you do eat plenty of protein, TUNA very high in protein. body needs protein to grow muscles. If you can get yourself down to somewhere that does circuit training!! fitness and strenght is best not just strengh!!
