sparky2
http://www.penistoneshow.org.uk/Home.htm Hi there. Above is the web site for Penistone Show. We go most years, it is a good day out for all the family, we are going again this year, (hopefully the weather will be kind to us). It is mainly an agricultural show because around Penistone there are a lot of farmers but as I said before there is a lot to do for everyone. We go by train from Sheffield, the trains are pretty regular and it is much easier than by car and messing about parking although there is a car park next to the show ground, not sure of the cost. Across the road from the entrance to the show ground there are two pubs also a sit down chip shop which are all good. Go along I'm sure you will enjoy it, maybe see you there. Cols
I Lived in Penistone for a number of years and made the show most years. It's a nice afternoon out BUT like most outdoor events, very dependent on the weather. As mentioned, it's geared to the agricultural side of things, with lots of cows, bulls, sheep, goats (but no pigs !!!!) being paraded around. And also a show jumping arena for the horsey types. There's even a marquee for the best veg, floral and craft displays etc. There's always a (small) number of kiddies rides and 20 or 30 stalls selling the usual craft fair type of stuff and other stalls selling tacky toys etc. Good day out for the kids - if you get the weather. bluesandtwos
we go most years as only live 10 mins away. very enjoyable day if the weather holds. would recommend you get a pass-out from show to buy food outside though, absolute rip-off in show ground. In Uppers
I went once years ago, was just watching the show jumping when a bull from the next ring broke free & started bolting around the show jumping ring. Very entertaining. It took about 20 farmers to catch the chuffing thing
Godzilla
I will be there with the Sheffield Retired Greyhound trailer. I hope that the weather is kinder to us than last year, when the rain was relentless and we all got soaked. Pop along and say Hello to us.
Godzilla
Had a very fruitful time at Penistone Show today. Lots of people came to say Hello to the greyhounds and we took over £400 in sales and donations. It was supposed to finish at 5pm, but there was still plenty going on when we left at 5.30ish. Unfortunately, it's likely to be a smaller event next year as there are plans to build a supermarket on part of the show ground - shame!
tess667
We didn't go Mr Tess thought the entry fee was a bit steep
