Zimily
Well, I was wandering home from my friends house this evening and a taxi driver pulled up and asked me to close his passenger door properly. Whist happily doing this he asked me where I was going to and I told him which street I lived on. He said to me well hop in and I'll take you there. I advised I had no money so I was ok walking (ok - stupid I know, walking home alone at 3am). He said, don't worry about it, it's fine, I'll take you there free of charge. And he did just that. WOW! It's made my night! Ok I did worry at what he would ask from me other than money - oh er, but he seemed genuine enough, and that he was. See, nice people do exist! Fareast
I feel genuinely glad that Zimily had such a rewarding experience .It does indeed do something for one's soul to come across kindness and goodness . However , it says something for the general state of our society , when someone is quite surprised to come across unselfishness and reports it .It some societies , casual , kindly acts are the norm. medusa
I'm really pleased to hear that someone has done something that has renewed your faith in human nature Zimily- I think we could all do with some form of random kindness to show us the potential of what could happen if we were nicer to each other. pattricia
That was nice of him wasn't it? Although you shouldn't have been walking home alone at 3 in the morning x Not only that you should never get into a strange car or taxi.I know its tempting.Ive walked home many a time from a dance(always with friends though) at 3 & 4 a.m. from Town to Longley Estate, but would never have got in a strange car.I think more so now, than when I was younger. I would reiterate this to anyone else who might contemplate getting into a taxi that pulls up without request. While this taxi driver seemed to be perfectly genuine and gave you a lift, I had a colleague who was driven into some woods and raped by a black cab driver some years ago, and that was a cab she'd got into at a taxi rank. I totally understand what your saying but what if I hadn't and carried on walking home alone and something had happened then? Yes it was a risk but he could've also followed me down the street and hassled me also as there was nobody else around...
