BAZZO
Phew. The city can get back to its old self again after the drama and excitement of the World Underwater Hockey Championship at Ponds Forge. Despite the crowds numbering several dozens the police have confirmed that no arrests were made throughout the week-long event. I was fortunate in obtaining tickets for two of the events but despite peeing (peering ed. )into the pool for lengthy periods I was unlucky in not being able to catch much of the finger-biting action. On one occasion I could make out the fishy shape of one of the Australian participants -however my partner said it was a discarded towel drifting along the bottom of the baths. Although this was billed as an International event it was disappointing to find such scant coverage in the local newspaper.Perhaps due to the prominence of the new Football Season. Anyway let us hope that everyone who took part enjoyed their time in this great city of sport.

After this underwater hockey tournamant, I'll never be the same again!
Fareast
My own view is , for what it's worth [ hands up , who said " tuppence " ] , is that Underwater Hockey will sweep through Britain , Europe and The World , as football once did . Apart from the inherent excitement of watching people almost expiring whilst playing a competitive game , there is the added attraction of not being able to see them spitting , or kissing each other when a goal is scored , or hearing profane language when they don't score . Conversely , they can't hear the nasty , often racialist , insults levelled at them by their detractors or even supporters . Even more of a magnet however is the fact that as Global Warming creeps over this doomed planet of ours and water gets scarcer and scarcer , it will give the general public a lovely little thrill to see real water being used so freely . The only cloud on the horizon , of course , is that lack of rain might mean that teams have to cart the same water around for weeks on end to different venues and this could result in a yellowing and make watching the game difficult . A bit off the subject but Global Warming could also mean the drying up of the English Channel and all that money we spent on the tunnel will have been wasted .
