Crayfish
Just heard that I've been offered a place at Manchester University for a PhD place, following an interview last Tuesday. So, I guess that I won't technically be a Sheffielder for long. I'll probably still spend some time on here though (if I have any time left over!). Just got to not **** up and work hard now - looking forward to it though! I have three weeks to sort out some housing. Where's nice to live in Manchester? Anyone have any experiences / advice to offer? I'll be part of the dermatology department at the school of medicine, studying the role of nuclear hormone receptors in skin ageing. Guess that answers the debate over whether it's possible to get a PhD with only a 2:1 BSc in the previous thread. I think personality and interests close to the project topic were probably the major factors though, as I felt on a similar wavelength to the supervisors. Oo, excited! And you blow your own trumpet! You deserve a bit of self congratualtion when you get a PhD place! Unfortunately can't offer much in the way of advice as to where to live. Is there a forum like this for Manchester? Answered it myself: http://www.manchester-forum.co.uk/

NEKRO138
Congratulations Crayfish! Please, don't stop there, let's all celebrate our achievements! In 1992, I not only gained a FOUR STAR swimming certificate, I also passed my Cycling Profiency test, and my examiner said I did "Quite well". I also won the 'best easter egg contest'. This was great news for me, as I had to bounce back from coming only second in the sack race at sports day the previous year.
Crayfish
Ha, I'm tootling along fine Very good Nekro - I never won best easter egg (though I can match you on the other two) Got best rock garden at around that time though, and they gave me 5 pounds. That was a good year. Luckily I'll be getting a bit more for this one though, well chuffed! in case you couldn't tell. Merry christmas to you too Don! Not sure I want to know about Santas bulges though...
