themagicwand
A family member sent me a DVD they had burned of their wedding. They'd burned it on their own PC and is an .avi file. I put the DVD in my bog standard DVD player and it simply won't play. So I put it on my PC. Real player tried to play it, but came up with the message "DX50 decompressor not found". a) Is my DVD player simply too slow to play the DVD, or is it another problem? b) Can a "DX50" be downloaded for my PC or is it another problem? Any help gratefully received as I'm desperate to see the video footage! TIA

themagicwand
Thanks for the advice. Any ideas to get the .avi file to work on a DVD player? ie a cheapo one fitted to the TV. I've heard something about Nero converting .avi files into another format that standard DVD players can read???

I've heard something about Nero converting .avi files into another format that standard DVD players can read??? DO NOT USE nero to re encode to mpg, the audio always go out of sync, you need a proper avi - mpg converter, i use tmpgenc but its not free. once you have an mpg you use nero to burn as a vcd (video cd) which can fit 79minutes on a normal cdr and works in almost all dvd players. however save yourself the trouble and buy a dvd player / recorder that also plays divx/avi/mpg files then you only have to stick onto cd / dvd as computer files.....like i do anyway, to back em up off the puter and it should play em (correct formatting withstanding mind)

I've heard something about Nero converting .avi files into another format that standard DVD players can read??? There's a very nice DivX DVD player coming into Aldi next week. It will play anything you throw at it and will save you the hassle of having to re-encode this file on your PC.
