Viper_GTSR
New, site, http://www.spiralfrog.com is going to offer free legal MP3's from somewhere early in the new year. They're doing it by generating revenue from ad's on the site to actually pay for people to download the songs, and still make a profit for themselves. Thing is, there is some speculation that to download a song, one ad must be watched which is hardley a major problem. After that though, some people are saying that once a month, users will have to renew the licenses for each song by logging onto the site. This too, I think is perfectley do able. Then, however, some are saying each song will have to be individually renewed, which means one ad per song. This, might be slightly annoying for those of use with 1000+ songs . Guess we will have to see. Universal has already signed up with spiralfrog, giving their entire music collection. With some figures suggesting that for every dong bought, 30 are downloaded illegaly, maybe it is Universal trying to still make a profit from it's music. If the 30:1 ratio is true, it seems like a logical/inevitable choice. I'm looking forward to it though
Nazo
I read about this the other day. It sounds like a step in the right direction byt they still haven't embraced the whole concept of free music. From what I understand tracks won't be burnable to CD and use Windows media format thus won't be playable on iPod (but will on other players). So presumably still DRM riddled then, and not worth listening to loads of adverts for in my opinion.
