downtroad
Beautiful. A testament to modern man. I especially like the last one, the red sky, the smoke, the clouds, the trees and the water. Showing that Drax is perfectly at one with nature, just like a Frank Lloyd Wright house.

downtroad
Bob Ross would have loved that last image and probably have said "look how happy the trees are!".
artisan
Where does the name come from? http://newsimg.bbc.co.uk/media/images/41001000/jpg/_41001320_drax_203.jpg http://www.howden.com/images/photographs/exp_drax2.jpg http://www.davidbell.ic24.net/images/Drax%20Power%20Station.jpg Drax is named after the village of Drax, near where it is situated. All power stations are named after the areas in which they are built. I agree it is a beautiful construction, as are most engineering artifacts. At a certain point on the M62 driving toward Hull, you can see all three of the big power stations, Ferrybridge, Drax and Eggborough. On a clear winters day with exhausts showing against the sky, it recalls to us our achievements in the different fields of engineering. Another marvellous sight is a group of wind turbines on a moorland hillside, the graceful, quiet, power of them as they work is a testament to the early windmill designers who thought of the idea centuries ago.
