TarotStar
Have a PC on a dial up modem. All was well until suddenly the phone line died. Unplugged everything, then started to plug things back in. The phone line now works okay, but as soon as the PC is plugged in to the line, the line goes dead. Have replaced all connections from PC to phone line with no joy. It really does appear to be the PC that causes the phone line to die. And this is with the PC NOT switched on! Bizarre. Any ideas? Pretty please??? steev
Didn't start happening immediately after a thunder storm did it?
Till Man
The phone isn't plugged into the network socket on the PC by mistake is it?
fnkysknky
Modem is probably knackered - had it happen a few times after storms in the past where the modem got fried.
Avalon
Sounds like you have exceeded the REN value for the line. How may individual devices do you have plugged in?
TarotStar
The phone isn't plugged into the network socket on the PC by mistake is it? Correct! Have put the plug into the correct socket & all is now well! Funny how it worked for ages like this though before deciding to kill the line!?
