grwood
It's a long shot.... I am going to Edinburgh today for a job interview tomorrow and thought I would see if there were any unwanted travel tickets or if anybody happened to be driving up that I could hitch a lift with? The train fare is a big one, so I thought I would see how lucky I could be. If not I'll have to get the train
Dark Moomin
Can't help i'm afraid, but is there a coach that would be cheaper? I know it will take ages but if pennies are tight it might be an option? Good luck with the Interview! Oh yes, if you know further in advance that you need to go, I went for a weekend for £29 on the train.
GrinderBloke
If you are travelling from Sheffield area to Edinburgh ask the potential employer to cover your resonable travel costs, if you are unemployed at the moment get in contact with the Jobcentre today before you setoff they will help cover your costs. seeyoujimmy
Whatever you do, don't get the bus, it takes around 8 hours! Do you drive? If so it might be a bit cheaper to get the train from doncaster than sheffield, and it saves you an hour off the journey, also when buying from GNER/Virgin make sure when it comes up with the prices you check the singles as two singles are as cheap as a return. Remeber to take into account where in edinburgh the job is as it's a very big place, just like sheffield, if you don't mind me asking where about is the interview? (Can't help being nosey!) grwood
Thanks for all the advice, what a great forum! The job in for Edinburgh Uni doing accounting. I only found out about the interview today which is why I am so rushed, otherwise I could have got a cheap ticket. Oh well, £50 it is! AGH!!! I will check the doncaster route though, saving an hour sounds great!
neeeeeeeeeek
The uni should pay your travel costs unless they offer the job and you turn it down.
grwood
But is working through an agency.... no harm in asking though!
seeyoujimmy
Edinburgh Herriot Watt or jsut edinburgh, the only reason i ask is that Herriot Watt is outside edinburgh and you'd need to get a taxi or bus, bus will be alot cheaper. Edinburgh Uni is within walking distance of the station but will take around 20 mins to get there on foot, again, there are buses, if you need any other info let me know!
