original
Ok i was told to start a thread over this.Seems alot of you have views on what councillors are for.what do they get paid to do? Do they try to help to the best of their ability?Do you get complaints dealt with or even replied to ?do you believe they do try to help the community? or is it just a case of attending meetings to pretend they are interested ? Well i can tell you the majority of people on gleadless get no joy or help from them.oh yes attend meetings with us then its we will look into it ,we will do this,do that, what happens nothing always shoving leaflets through door vote this, vote that, for what for a load of false promises.sweet talk to win your vote thats what it is.Has anyone actually had any good from their local councillor ? perky
I have to say i was approached by 1 to see if he could help over the youths the other day.but on a differant note i have contacted them before after getting no joy with a certain housing office. I rung,e-mailed and wrote but never recieved a reply and the matter went undealt with.I dont have much faith in the council. I do believe this as come through the thread over camping and think the youths should be helped and proper places made legal for them to camp.but as stated the council isnt prepared to help
redrobbo
Just a minor point original - you weren't "told" to start your own thread..... Hi original By the way, is there any reason why you should single me out amongst the numerous humorous posters on this thread? I don't see why you should mention that I'm a councillor on this thread? Aren't councillors allowed a sense of humour? If you want to comment, or simply snipe about the council - why not start your own thread? On a separate minor point, councillors aren't technically paid. All councillors receive a basic allowance to cover various costs, and some receive additional responsibility allowances. I am new on here but from what i have seen and been told these forumers do hell of alot for the children on gleadless just look at the threads over bankwood school. How many others would try to get their community back up ? A.B.Yaffle
We've only recently moved to Gleadless, so haven't had any dealings with the local councillors yet. While living at Netherthorpe we had cause to contact our local councillor Veronica Hardstaff on a few occasions and found her to be very helpful. While living at Netherthorpe we had cause to contact our local councillor Veronica Hardstaff on a few occasions and found her to be very helpful. there is 1 councillor around here very helpful.Yes it is our home 36yrs on gleadless and i wont sit by and let the estate go to the dogs neither will other locals. We have asked for street lights near school as it a dangerous walkway for young children not been done. The council putting problem familys around here at every oppurtunity. And how many times have we asked for help towards something for the kids is untrue.Oh sorry they did get a tin shed for the older youths

CorkerSWFC
well if your so good and clever give the kids something to do then, gleadless is shocking theres no where for my 1 year old and 3 year old 2 play, i have to go down to sharrow on the 47 to take em to the park herdings is too far and full of glass, no wonder there is so much antisocial behavior around our area cause its took for granted the quarry and the old farm house on gleadless road has been there for years but not 1 park for the kids, it makes me laugh i dont expect anything to happen as it never has from councellers coppers or any1 we live in a slum unlike the students
