kittenta
The law is changing now regarding child car seats although I don't think it has been publised enough! Do you think we needed a stricter law making older children use them? http://www.childcarseats.org.uk/law/fromseptember06.htm#over3upto12

Bloomdido
Why would anyone want to put their child to unneccessary risk except the type of people we need to legislate for? I have seen enough examples of kids running loose in the back of a car or babies balanced on knees. What will the penalty be? let me guess - a fine. dynamicdebz
I think that even if seatbelts aren't fitted then the child must not go in the car except in the first 2 circumstances mentioned. It should be a parents responsibility to make sure they get fitted for the safety of their own children. After all the law wouldn't say it's against the law to leave a small child home alone except where your mate invites you for a free beer down the pub. Immortalmind
I'm not sure about the new law on car seats. I have a small child, who needs a car seat anyway, but I also know an 11 year old who travels in cars with my family. I don't believe it's fair that because he's small he should have to be on a booster seat - it must be humiliating for him.
dynamicdebz
I humiliate my 8 year old daughter daily by making her use a booster seat, she hates it & states her friends don't have to. But the possible consequences are DEATH either by a broken neck because the seat belt doesn't fit right or because they've flown through a window because of not waering one. One thing we all need to remember no matter how careful a driver you maybe, there are a lot of idiots out there. So you know I don't care if she's humiliated or if I'm shot down on here, I've seen what can happen & the lives it ruins.
Bloomdido
My seven year old will be able to legally wear an adult belt.
helenbean
why is it all of a sudden we have to have booster seats for our kids? why did we not have them in the 60's or the 70's?
Twiglet
It already is, and has been for a long time, illegal for ANYONE to travel in a car without wearing a seatbelt. This legislation is not to make children wear seatbelts, it is supposedly due to normal seatbelts not properly fitting people under the height of 135cm. However, this has been badly administered. Why don't adults under 135cm have to wear one as I assume it causes the same problem? No legal standpoint has yet been made clear on the use of seatbelt adjusters either. kittenta
My seven year old will be able to legally wear an adult belt. How come, are they tall?? I agree they should wear them if it makes a difference to their saftey. My 9 year old hates the idea but i'd rather he wore one as i'd never forgive myself if something happened to him that I could have prevented. Kids get embarrassed about a lot of things, it's natural and after a few months car seats probably won't even be mentioned by any of them.
