CHAIRBOY Posted August 30, 2006 Share Posted August 30, 2006 For anyone who didn't see BBC 2 Newsnight programme last night and is considering stem cell treatment eg for MS etc, please refer to Newsnight page http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/programmes/newsnight/5299306.stm The whole thing looked a dangerous scam to me and some people were parting with large sums of money in a desperate bid to be cured. From the article: The general manager of AllCells, Jay Tong, told Newsnight he was shocked that his cells were being injected into people. He made clear, as does the company's website, that the cells are intended only for research purposes. They are not guaranteed free from bacterial and viral contamination to the standard that would allow them to be used even in animal models, let alone people... The wife of the patient has already exchanged e-mails with one of the people mentioned in the programme, with a view to treatment for her husband. An initial consultancy was to be £200, followed by the stem cell injection at £9000 for starters. The programme can be viewed on-line on the BBC Newsnight page from the above link I supplied. Thank God the Beeb, and inparticular Newsnight did this investigation. Makes you wonder why its left to Newsnight and not the responsibility of some Health watchdog ?
