Yorvic museum - what is it like

Recommended Posts

Suitable for all ages.

Undercover electric car ride - with audio narrative - through a reconstruction of a viking village on the site of the original archaeological finds under Coppergate. The sounds and smells are really atmospheric. A museum is at the end of the 15-20 minute ride.

Really good stuff, and well set out.

Keep your eyes open for the viking fella having a dump in a period latrine on your left. He's the one with the pink cheeks.:D

A good amount of 'yuk' factor for the kids. When I went I wished I could wander round at my own pace instead of in the little car. I felt I didn't have time to take in all the details. But then I'd previously been to the Canterbury Tales in Kent (created by the same people) which you can stroll around slowly, which affected my judgement of Jorvik. It felt too fast.

thanks to the three of you for your feedback. Glad I have made the right choice for tomorrow. Forgot to ask. Do you think I will have time to do the Yordik and the train museum if we are there all day as that is my plan. Perhaps to ambitous.

...complete with the smell of poo. :hihi:

Anyway, you could do Jorvik and the train museum, long as you get there early, head off to Jorvik first as it won't take that long to look at, and then head for the NRM - look out for the free mini-train thingie that takes you up to it. Or ask at the tourist info office & they'll tell you where to find it (or look on the NRM website).

the rail museum is fantastic, and you may find that you overrun of you go there first! (jorvik is great, too)

I'd go to jorvik first, If I were you, then hop over to the NRM. Jorvik is more structured in terms of time to go, get round, and get out, the NRM is more of a "wander and browse" place.

(edit! simulposted with mathom!)
