rich951
I'm getting the impression that my long-suffering wife would dearly like me to remove my bikes from the kitchen (hybrid for commuting) and attic bedroom (road bike). We have a shed but it's wooden, rather old and very insecure. In fact I've already had one bike stolen from there, the lock just came straight off the wood with I suspect minimal effort. The only other obvious place I can keep them is in the old brick outhouse/toilet. With a solid new door on it would be reasonably secure, but the problem is it just ain't big enough! I've worked out I can get one and possibly both bikes in by standing them up on the back wheels at about 45 degrees. So the question I'm (finally ) asking is: any ideas or advice on how to do this? The front wheel will need securing to the wall otherwise I'll never get the door shut! I was thinking something like this but it doesn't really look too sturdy. Most other storage products just seem designed to hook the bike to the wall when there's plenty of space around! Any other ideas?
chris@25
That sort of thing will probably be fine, unless you are wanting to lock your bike to something solid then it shouldn't have to be too sturdy, just stop the bike from slipping back when you're openging / closing the door. Have you tried a brick behind the back wheel? In my case the lawn mower stops the bike from slipping back but it's a bit of a balancing act
plekhanov
You can buy anchor points with security bolts so you also have something secure to lock your bike to, If you have one of those and the hook to support you bike you should be ok, I think some motorbike shops sell anchor points. alchresearch
How about a small concrete shed? You can get sectional ones just like with garages and make the size to suit: http://www.markforrestandco.com/garages3.htm
beckelina
What about going hardcore with something like a BikeAway locker? They also do a free-standing bike frame which ensures no metal-to-metal contact.. check out http://www.bikeaway.com/index.htm for more info. But they are based in Devon... YakQueudrue
The easiest solution is to simply keep your wife in the shed, she can act as a built in alarm if anyone breaks in and tries to steal her.
medusa
Why not have something to secure the back wheel to the floor (close to the door) rather than trying to reach the front wheel and lock it to the wall? All you'd need is a set of slots for the front wheel to sit in, and some sort of 'chock' to sit behind the rear wheel and provide a base for the lock. rich951
Thanks for those ideas! I'd love a couple of those lockers, although I suspect they are a bit expensive as prices aren't shown! I might think about one of the Wall Hoops, although I also need to check the logistics of the space in there! Devon isn't a problem, as they do mail-order for 10% charge. I did wonder about a new shed, but I'm guessing that would be even more expensive. I need to decide how long we're likely to be living here before going that far! Oh and the wife would probably sleep through it all...

I might have a try at that, just needs something on the floor high enough to stop the back wheel rolling back. Time to go see if I even need anything on the back wall, might just be able to lean the handlebars on the side wall!
