Tommy21
I have just heard today that we will be having MORE student flats being built in town. The building work has already started at the old park and ride near the main roundabout in town (across the road from Granellies). This will be a good location for students but what a waste of govenment tax money!!!
SunflyKid
I think these are all private enterprises - Pretty much a licence to print at the moment... Hopefully it will drive flat prices down (I'm looking for a first time buy).

2wentypence
The more student flats, the more family homes will come back on to the market and hopefully drive prices down. Its a good thing

peterw
Mystified! How would student flats release family homes?
Slotter
A lot of 'family homes' (eg terraces in Crookes/Walkley) are currently lived in by 4/5 students in multiple occupancy. If students choose to live in new flats this sort of housing will gradually switch back to single household family housing like it was when it was first built. They will be more of this housing availble so prices will become more affordable.

That is what has happened in Heeley and around the Sheffiel United ground, a lot of the terraced property that was student houses have been changed back into proper homes. The students prefer to live in clean, modern, secure apartments with broadband internet etc. (who can blame them) rather than the grotty run-down old houses they traditionally inhabited. SpiderPete
I see they have painted all the wooden fences that surround the outside of the building area - white. Why ?? talk about waste money there. They will eventually knock them down.
