Thankyou ever so much for that.

That rib part has really confused me as in the book it says knit the stitches that were purled previously and purl the stitches that were knit previously...but you don't do that on this, or am i just not thinking properly

I was just going to say that sounds more like moss stitch, but I've just realised that the instructions in your book are for flat knitting with two needles, not for knitting in the round.

If you were just doing 'ordinary' knitting with two needles, where you turn the fabric at the end of each row (and so have the knit 'right' side and the purl 'wrong' side), you would indeed purl the knit stitches when working the 'wrong' side.

With knitting on the round, the 'wrong' side is always on the inside of the tube. It's like knitting one continuous 'right' side.

Ok. I'm going to do it too. Although I'm sure I will take much much longer than everyone else due to not having much knitting time, and having a dozen other things I'm working on too. Is it just one 50g ball I need? I also need to buy the DPNs and a cable needle as I don't have any.

One ball of the yarn is all I needed, though I didn't have much left over and I actually bought two just in case.

You could always use one of the DPNs from the set instead of a cable needle. Save your money for more yarn :) .

I saw a lovely deep burgundy/purple colour on Get Knitted that I may go for. We can't have another person doing black! I need help already though, I've never even read a pattern with cables in it and I don't understand this

C4B: Slip next 2 sts to cable needle (or spare double-point needle) and hold to back of work; k2, k2 from cable needle.

So, you slip 2 stitches onto a spare needle, hold it to the back of the work, and then what? Knit the 2 stitched on the spare needle? Twice? How?

Or does it mean something else?

What you do is slip 2 stitches on the cable needle, hold them at the back, then knit the next 2 stitches (of the main knitting) and then knit the 2 from the cable needle - it twists the 4 stitches if you can see what I mean. Cables are really simple and very effective - you should have no probs once you get going:D

Ooooooh I get it now! I thought it meant to knit the stitches from the cable needle, not the main knitting. Ohmygod that sounds so simple. Why was I worrying about cables...or maybe I shouldn't speak too soon! I'm definitely doing the knitalong....I will show you what colour I am using when I get it. I'm still undecided as of yet.

I went ahead and bought 2 balls of it in this colour. Mainly because I didn't want to do the same as everyone else, and because I love deep purples. Also because it will go with my new bag!
