BasilRathbon
After 15 years of smoking I eventually stopped just over 3 weeks ago. (see this thread as to how and why) http://www.sheffieldforum.co.uk/showpost.php?p=1390085 The weird thing is that I actually feel worse now than when I was smoking, largely because I’m constantly out of breath. Virtually any form of physical activity – be it walking, cycling or even climbing stairs leaves me panting in the same way that it used to when I was a 20 a day smoker. I’m not obese or unfit and, having felt some improvement for the first few days after I’d packed in smoking, I’m baffled as to why I’m now getting out of breath again. Have booked an appointment with my doctor tomorrow but just wondered if anyone else has had the same thing?
themagicwand
When I used to smoke (20+ a day) a good smoke would always cure an asthma attack. These days I have to rely on my inhalor. It's just not the same. Bah! 4 years on I still miss my fags. I also miss the cigarettes.
Jabberwocky
I know a few who are like that, one friend got so bad last year they thought he had TB because he was coughing all sorts of crap up. Aparrantly its your lungs clearing all the rubbish out of them, and itll go on for quite a while before it stops. They SAY its worth it in the end... Banjo Griner
Your body is starting to clear all the crap out - I gave up just over a year ago and it makes you feel horrible. I still cough up nasty phlegm and my lungs are not at 100% - it takes like a year for your lungs to begin to repair so you've gotta bear with it. skippy
Don't go back to them Bassa, I wish I could stop, you start off with a packet & end up with a box, mind you everyone does in the end.
hoba
I'm quitting on the 1st of september, after far too many years. I want to do it- I've been smoking for far too long- but I know it's going to be hard. And I'm aware of the fact that I've got all this fun stuff ahead- coughing up stuff and wishing I still smoked. I plan to get a t-shirt made up daying "Don't feed the nicotine addict." No doubt I'll be on here complaining once I have quit. We should form a support group! Jabberwocky
What happened to your attempt with the patches, Jabberwocky? http://www.sheffieldforum.co.uk/showpost.php?p=1317839&postcount=84 I was doing fine with the patches, until they went below a certain dosage. As soon as the dosage went low I immediately started to crave a cig badly! The doc who put me onto the Zyban tells me that the pill stops all impulses of craving, and theyre so good that Ill be able to do cold turkey without a hitch. Time will tell of course, but the doc admitted the patches werent very good.
