We had no pressure in our boiler recently and was shown how to recity this. I put the pressure to just over 1/2 bar and now I have put the thermostat to 80 degrees, the pressure has risen to nearly 3 bar which i know is way too much and am scared of damaging the parts in the boiler. I have tried to bleed the radiators to bring the pressure down to no avail. The boiler is a Ferrolli Modena 360

I assume you checked the pressure when the boiler was working?

As the boiler heats the water, it (the water) expands increasing the pressure. 3 bar is about right for a hot boiler.

Wait til the boiler is cold and recheck, you will probably find everything is OK.

Thanks fo the reply

When the boilet isnt on it is at about 1/2 bar. I am just concerned that it has never risen above 1 bar before even when on full temperature. Also I have noticed that when we run the hot water the boiler seems to turn off now and then just giving cold water. It switches from hot to cold. The boiler has been in about 10 years now just FYI

My Advice would be to 1st keep an eye on it. its probably the expansion vessel (cheaper to change on a mondena there side mounted, not rear.)

Also if it does go above 3 bar the pressure releif safety device should operate.

If your still worried give me a call and i will come and have a look for you.

Cheers

The red lock outlight has been coming on cutting off the boiler, it also seems to be struggling on firing up.

I will be in touch if necessary

I think the red lock out light is low water pressure, as for firing up there are several faukts on the modena that do this. the good thing is though they are also quite simple to fix usually and the parts arn't to bad.

Simple boiler to work on and fix.

Water pressure in a boiler should be 1bar to 1.5bar when cold and generally rises to 2bar. In older boilers this may increase to 2.5. A boiler like yours shouldn't go from 1/2 bar to 3bar. As mickey has said this is likely a prob with the expansion vessel which just needs re-pressurising.

When the water pressure dropped in your boiler a small bit of dirt may have got trapped in the low water switch and this could be 'confusing' the firing sequence.

time for an engineer ;)

I have a Worcester Bosch 28 i Junior combi boiler with a manual timer which is not working. It will do on and off positions ok but not the 'clock' one. Everything else is operating properly, ie hot water and thermostat. Is the problem likely to be just the timer and, if so, as it's got a 2 year guarantee for the boiler should the timer be covered too?

Is there anything I can try please before calling an engineer out, please? Should I call the engineer who fitted it (cos it's under guarantee) or do I have the option to find another?

Thanks.

sounds like the timer, the timer is an accesorie therefore not covered under the same warranty as the boiler is.

have a nip down the road to prospect road and see julie in heatparts, she will supply you with a new clock, alternatively remove the room stat and replace it with a programmable room stat and leave the timer in the 24hr position.

anyone can do the second option were as a corgi engineer needs to replace the boiler programmer due to the casing needing removing.

As John says the timer will not be covered.( i've just had a long argument about this with valliant.) the original installer will have to replace it for you and not get paid, oh the joy of being a gas engineer.

NEW TOPIC

We have a Ariston 24HE which needs resetting (A01 is displayed) following ignition failure.

Boiler works fine for a short while, but then cuts out and needs resetting again.

Just for info the pressure is 1barr, and there is no wall stat.

Suggested faults appreciated.

Could be many things. Again i'm not keen on the Ariston microgenus. THe fault lies within the combustion chamber so you'll need a corgi (Gas Safe) engineer out.

I've not seen many aristons but have just dearched that fault code and it says the main pcb is a very common fault, so much so they are like rocking horse manure. apparantely if you can get hold of 1 they are 230 + vat with no labour. again i can't remeber seeing one of these so can't comment how long it will take. I think my supplier may specialise in ariston parts if you require any more help please contact me.:)
