Any ex Firth Park School lads n lassies out there?

Recommended Posts

The tower was originally going to stay as it was listed and after they knocked the school down last summer the tower was standing alone.

It was surveyed and thought to dangerous to stay so had to be demolished which was a great shame.

It opens in September as a college as rightly pointed out by Markham and my son starts there on day 1 on IT studies.

Good to see some good come out of it and the ghost should be more comfortable in there than a drafty old school.

Does anyone remember the crazy, eccentric, strict (but very clever) music teacher at Firth Park, surely you do. If anyone dared to yawn in class you had to hope and prey he did not catch you or you'd be oiked out to pay a pittance of singing an octave in front of the class or a blackboard rubber thrown your way or the fact you could almost have peed yourself with his loud booming voice directed at you. The days of schooling!

Yes - Mr Jackson! No relation to Mrs Jackson, the other music teacher. He drove that blue Ford Escort cabriolet.

You call him eccentric? I call him a nutter! If he caught you yawning or chewing gum in class...500 lines for you!

He used to spend most of the lesson insulting pupils.

Last I heard (a few years ago) he was sacked from another school for throwing a boardduster at a pupil!

I remember the headmaster in 1950, WRCC Chapman, called, predictably ARSEY. 'Spike' Johnson, history teacher in a room on the very top floor, right at the end, next to the lost and found. Remember Mr Bates, english teacher, and 'Prodder' who was, I think, the chemistry teacher. The name came from his arm, which was not straight, possibly broken at one time. Don't remember much else, except a sixth former called Battersby, who one time leaned out of the sixth form common room window on the sixth floor, threw a tanner down, then told me to fetch him an ice cream bar from the tuck shop. As there were 20 of us walking together, I picked up the tanner, took a chance he would never remember me, and went to the tuck shop and bought an ice. Hope Battersby's not still waiting for it!

My boyfriend left Firth Park school in 2000

I left there in 2001- I probably know him. Or at the very least he'll know me and/or my brother who was in his year.

I think everyone in that school knew us

Mr Brunt, Mr Pasley, Mr Critchley, Mr Dooley, Ms Ryan, Mr Webb, Miss Howdle, Mr Beeley, Mr Piper, Mr Lockwood, Mr Longley, Mr Copley, Mr Cheadle, Dr Hartley, Mr Mosforth, Mrs Standing etc etc....

I left in 1994 and those were some of the teachers I remember. To answer someone's previous question, Mr Barr was a history teacher.

Award for best teacher goes jointly to Mr Brunt & Mr Longley for excellent German lessons. Unfortunately, there were quite a few contenders for worst teacher so I won't go there.

Anyone got any idea who still works there?

I'm not sorry to see Brushes go - it was a complete s**thole when I was there and extremely cold in winter!!

Must dash - big hello to everyone who was there from 1990-1994.

Mel.

AKA Darkling.
