I passed my test age 17 in 1975. My instructor had an Escort 1300E in metallic purple 😁. If memory serves me correctly his name was Pete Wainwright, bit of a character but got me through first time. Anyone else pass with him?

Stan Wainwright driving school.was on Langsett Road . Stan was a character a real.lady's man . do not know if Pete was part of business.

Elsie Stans wife ran the shop .she cooked pupils a bacon sandwich before they went on test said it calmed them down .

I always refused Else's sandwiches due to.mouse foot imprints in the drippin left in the frying pan .

I bread budgies and parrots with Stan at one time .exhibition birds .

One year we bread a pair of champion birds kept at Stans aviary .

Stan phoned me up one morning ."I've got some bad news for thi" he said . "What's that " said I ."Well tha bird has died " said Stan . I never figured how he knew that it was mine that had kippered it.

I passed 10 weeks after my 17th birthday in ‘62 and it’s so long ago I can’t remember my instructor’s name.

I do recall he was a large built chap with a walrus moustache and had an original mini and a mini pickup, both of which I drove. He was a one man band.

He used to pick me up from the Midland Station on a Monday, Wednesday and Friday teatime for three weeks alternately for lessons in the rush hour plus I had a lesson prior to my test. I also practised on Dad’s A55 Cambridge Farina in between times.

When I was 21 a mate and I taught driving on a part time basis for Brian Tindall on Richmond Park  Road, Handsworth.

I passed my test when I was 17 in February 1970 having been instructed by Pennine School of Motoring, used to be up West Street.  My examiner was a bloke called Foggitt.

I had driving lessons with the Hillsborough School of Motoring in 1960.  Mr Ridley was my instructor in a Wolseley 1500.  Passed first time November 1st, 1960.

I learnt with Keith Fessey (mid 70s)who had a driving school at Handsworth near the cross keys.

he worked the night shift at Spear and Jacksons and then took driving lessons in the day.

He eventually was able to pack work in and concentrate on his driving school which he made quite successful.

His wife was lovely she did the reception work in the small office.

Keith died quite young but his school carried on I think ran by his widow.
