According to the Independent, the world's first football club was set up in Edinburgh, years before Sheffield F. C.

Sheffield Club are the `oldest` not the `first`; confused branding. Club are the oldest team still playing having started in 1857. Scottish claimants like `the football club` ceased existence. That make sense?

You said that Sheffield FC are the oldest not the first - their own website states that they are the first (for which they have zero evidence BTW)
