Personally, I don't think this edict from the Council will make any difference at all.

Footfall will continue to dwindle in the city centre and the Council's shiny new buildings will be unvisited.

I include myself in this exodus to MeadowHell eventually. In the last week, I have seen some scumbag run out of a Sainsburys Local with something (probably booze) they have swiped, followed by a poor staff member 60 secs later, trying to find them...and then a week later, I was in Greggs on Fargate and some scumbag moved through the queue, picked up a couple of chicken things, pretended to go to the back of the line and then walked out the door with them as I watched.

No wonder my veggie sausage roll has gone up 5p.

My partners cousin pulls this kind of stunt in some unfortunate town down South, which is why the family has disowned her and why I can't stand people like this.

Doubt if this edict will sort Sheffield out before no one wants to visit the place at all...

Council should have acted sooner...now that Sheffield has a national reputation for this sort of squalor...

Footfall around The Moor and Division Street (and HotC2 in between) feels like it has increased quite significantly compared to say a decade ago. Oh, and Orchard Square.

Clearly Castlegate has suffered in the same timespan, but Fargate & High Street still seem to be fairly busy but they are clearly more down at heel than they used to be.

From a retail perspective, there's still a big gap between the city centre and Meadowhall but the area around The Moor, Division St, Cambridge St has come together quite well as a retail quarter now. The new area still needs more time to properly fill it's units and settle in (Monki is closing apparently, but there are always ups and downs - Meadowhall has seen closures in recent years too).

Where do you get that from?

Does anyone know if enforcement will be done by a private company or council employees?

Reading the actual proposal police will be able to issue notices including PCSOs (who are included in the definition of "constable" jarringly.)

Alongside anyone the council authorises to issue them.

I imagine primarily it'd be SYP, BTP (at the train station), the litter wardens who already carry out enforcement and the Wardens in the red jackets in the city centre.
