Agreed. Perhaps we could also reduce our council tax payment by an appropriate amount when the bins aren't emptied on the day they're supposed to be emptied.

Or if they come back with "collection days are only their intention, not a guarantee of collection", we could say that it's our intention to pay that proportion the council tax, but it can't be guaranteed.

Good luck explaining that to a magistrate for non payment of council tax, let us know how you get on.

I always endeavour to sort my recycling correctly, but there's always some random item I'm never sure about.

More fines for genuine mistakes.....

Can we get a rebate on our Council Tax when the council gets things wrong, or doesn't fulfill its obligtions?

No, I didn't think so...

Getting more like a Police State every day.

Well, we do keep electing the people that make these decisions, often on unproven facts.

I know. Democracy isn't working. I've been on for ages about wouldbe Councillors having to submit a complete and verifiable C.V.  which has to be printed out and sent to all voters along with electioneering literature. And more effort should be made to encourage interested people to stand.

However I also know a very worthy elected  Councillor, who did a couple of years and then gave it up as they said they couldn't make a ha'peth of difference. It was all a back scratching, closed shop.

Would you prefer a dictatorship, then?

Sheffield won't be far behind.

Though I'd love to see what happens when Ferham/Masborough/Eastwood residents start getting fines, IF they do....
