woolyhead Posted November 25 Posted November 25 When I bought Office it wasn't called an app and I only had to pay the purchase price once, no regulat payment like they are asking for it now. Is what they are doing legal?

Is what they are doing legal? When did Office become an app? Has it always been an app? When I bought it there was no message saying it was an app which I would one day have to pay for it on a regulat basis.
Pyrotequila Posted November 26 Posted November 26 No idea, I use Open Office. Same thing, but free. 1
Ghozer Posted November 26 Posted November 26 (edited) About 10 or so years ago.. It was when Office for Mobile was released, then it changed to Office 365 But I just use OpenOffice, LibreOffice or GoogleDocs nowadays! Edited November 26 by Ghozer
alchresearch Posted November 27 Posted November 27 You can still get Office Professional Plus as a standard download that works completely offline https://www.theregister.com/2024/09/18/microsoft_office_ltsc_2024/

I looked at the websites for Open Office and Open Windows there was not exactly free but it was quite cheap compared to Microsoft Office. Can you tell me - can someone who is equipped with Microsoft Word open a document written with Open Office? I once used Open Office before I had Word and those who I contacted using Open Office couldn't open my documents. They all had Word. Has this problem been sorted now>
Pyrotequila Posted November 28 Posted November 28 I'm not sure what you mean "not exactly free"? Open Office is 100% free 🤔 As to opening the files in each others programs, from what I've read online they are compatible with each other... you can open Open Office words docs in MS Word and vice versa.
RobinofLoxley Posted November 28 Posted November 28 Do these word processors have a good grammar checker, does anyone know?

Oh, sorry. I must be mistaken. All I know is that I seached for Open Office and several offers to supply it came up, each one with a price tag. I'll look again. Could you also explain this for me, please. I just read somewhere online that Open Office cannot go online. whereas Word can. Do you perhaps know what that means?
