Looking for live music in the city

Recommended Posts

Having not been to Sheffield drinking for many years, where is the best place to go in Sheffield for free live music?  traditional Irish music would be great, but wouldnt mind a bit of rock either, and whats the best days to go?

To name but just a few that i've watched bands in recently  . West St Live , Katie O'Briens , Maida  Vale , Molly Mallones , Washington , Indigo Bar . The Grapes ,

Plus  i've not been yet but theres a new bar at the very top of Division St opposite the Vodka Rev that is advertising bands playing .

Dorothy Pax at Victoria Quay is a small cosy railway arch bar by the canal and has a mixture of gigs - some require tickets others are free entry with an encouragement to chuck a few quid in a bucket for the band.

Church House by the Cathedral (the one with the tram stop) have bands on every weekend, mostly but not exclusively classic rock cover bands.

Dog & Partridge on Trippet Lane (genuine Irish pub) has a folky jam session on Sundays.

Foresters on Division Street has an open mic night midweek.

Green Room by Devonshire Green have regular live events including an open mic night.

Molly Malones (Irish themed bar) on West Street has regular live entertainment.

Washington on Fitzwilliam Street has regular live music midweek, usually young indie, rock or alternative bands.

Agree with much of the above but in terms of Irish folk & similar, it's worth looking at the list of pubs who are usually involved in the Sheffield Folk Sessions festival. The festival itself is around the Easter weekend each year, but the pubs involved do typically host an array of live acts, open mic, practice/group sessions throughout the year:
