Does The Hen And Chickens Pub Castle Green Opens In The Day?

Recommended Posts

When I have been past the Hen and Chickens pub on Castle Green (  the pub is behind the old Town Hall/ Courts ,Haymarket ) in the day it does not appear to be open even on a Saturday afternoon . Does anyone know if it opens at night or has the pub closed altogether?

I used to go in the day sometimes after going in the Big Gun pub . I think the Hen and Chickens was used has a hostel at one point and run by a lady from London.

The last time I went in was during the day not many in but I had to stop drinking a few years back due to medical reasons so don't keep up to date on the pub front  I think the landlady was called Chelle the pub belonged to Enterprise Inns.

I think the pub could be much better but Enterprise were not willing to invest in it hence why it got so run down the most it got was a lick of paint what it  really needed was a full refurbishment.

It is listed as permanently closed on Google.

Fun fact: the Hen & Chickens was the pub used as a location for filming on Channel 4 drama The Virtues starring Stephen Graham and written/directed by Shane Meadows. The regulars were used as extras, with the director putting cash behind the bar for them. Lots of other Sheffield locations too - it is still available on Channel 4 On Demand.
