SheffieldForum Posted February 12 Author Posted February 12 Pound's Park This brand-new public space in the city centre brings greenery to urban surroundings and provides a new focal point for families to enjoy. Located on the former fire station site off Rockingham Street, the play park features two large pyramid towers, stainless steel slides, climbing structures, playhouses, a seesaw, splash park features, wheelchair-accessible play equipment, and more. Pound’s Park is named after Sheffield’s first Chief Fire Officer, Superintendent John Charles Pound. The pocket park is located on the former fire station site and offers a multitude of experiences, including spaces for play, relaxation and socialising. With families in mind, Pound’s Park features a three-by-eight-metre climbing boulder, reminiscent of a Peak District rockface, and a significant new children’s playground. The children's playground includes two large pyramid towers – with the tallest standing at 11 metres, stainless steel slides, climbing structures, playhouses, a seesaw, wheelchair-accessible play equipment and more. There's also a number of water play features too, perfect for sunny days in the city centre. Sheffield Forum | The Sheffield Guide | The Sheffield Shop

SheffieldForum Posted February 12 Author Posted February 12 Leah's Yard The jewel in the crown of Heart of the City. This former collection of small industrial workshops – and a Grade II* listed building no less – is currently being transformed into a new social hub for creative independent businesses. Renowned Sheffield artist, Pete McKee, is already on board as the first official tenant and will be moving his gallery into Leah's Yard – who’ll be next? That's an oddly specific, and frankly kinda odd, thing to get annoyed about though. The info we have is what we have - I could go and get more detail from the folk involved, but they'd just say the same things anyway? Plus - if there's something you don't agree about the materials the council releases, feel free to post counter-points and debate it, that's part of the point of Sheffield Forum. 👍 Sheffield Forum | The Sheffield Guide | The Sheffield Shop

SheffieldForum Posted February 12 Author Posted February 12 The Gaumont Building The former Kingdom nightclub is now known as the Gaumont Building again, a nod to its past as a theatre. Lots of progress was made in 2023 and the red steel frame exterior has now been shed to reveal a contemporary look for the leisure venue. which will have leafy external ‘living walls’. Having originally opened in 1927 as the stylish Regent Theatre, the building went on to become the Gaumont Theatre in 1946 – hosting many high-profile concerts such as The Beatles. By 1969, the original theatre décor was stripped out and, following demolition in 1985, it was transformed into a cinema, before it later became a nightclub. Although the final use of the building is not yet confirmed, it is anticipated that retail will remain at the ground floor along Barker’s Pool. The planning application ensures that the alterations to the building’s internal fabric are kept to a minimum, which allows maximum flexibility moving forward. SheffieldForum Posted February 12 Author Posted February 12 Bethel Chapel Sandwiched between the prime developments on Cambridge Street, Bethel Chapel is a 15,000 sq.ft. space that is set to become a new live entertainment venue for the city, that will have a bar and cafe area on the first floor with roof terrace and balcony on the top floor. Located on Cambridge Street, the 15,000 sq ft Bethel Chapel building, which dates back to the 1800s and was most recently the John Lewis toyshop, is currently being refurbished and will become the latest addition to the strong tradition of live music and performance spaces in Sheffield when it opens next year. The venue is seen as a key component in Heart of the City’s 'cultural and social’ focal point in the area and will further complement the major food hall development, Cambridge Street Collective, and the independent retail, studio and maker spaces in Leah’s Yard, which will also both open next in 2023. 1 Sheffield Forum | The Sheffield Guide | The Sheffield Shop

However, they do have a habit of occasionally being a little 'economical' with the truth. 3
