SheffieldForum Posted January 29 Posted January 29 After nearly three decades of presenting independent films to audiences in the Steel City, Showroom Cinema are asking for support to replace their oldest digital film projector with a new, more energy-efficient laser projector. A unique cultural hub, Showroom’s charitable activity includes platforming marginalised voices and independent films as part of a unique film programme for Sheffield, as well as supporting filmmakers at all levels of professional development. Showroom Cinema is a multipurpose venue and a safe space for protected groups, presenting bespoke screenings for audiences with autism and dementia. Replacing the projector is a significant cost, but imperative to continue presenting screenings and generating revenue that we can reinvest in supporting filmmakers and audiences. A new projector is an investment that will last over ten years, helping to reduce carbon emissions by over 1.1 tonnes of CO₂ per year! Despite facing the same adversities as other independent cinemas in recent years, including working to regain audiences post Covid 19 closures, competing with streaming services and multiplexes and rising energy costs, Showroom remains one of the largest independent cinemas outside of London and a “gem for Sheffield”. As part of registered charity Sheffield Media and Exhibition Centre (no. 1002020), Showroom Cinema relies on grants and donations for over 50% of their revenue. Anything you can give goes a long way to help keep the screens on for film fans across the region. Showroom Cinema thanks you for your support! Delbow Posted January 29 Posted January 29 Thanks for this. I knew it was as much a community asset as a business but I didn't realise it was part of a charity and so dependent on donations, so I chipped in. 1
bungleboy69 Posted January 29 Posted January 29 I regularly use The Showroom and think its a fantastic local asset. I've made a donation too.
