Sorry if this has been done before, but in case people don't know, Sheffield Tribune is an online news outlet about Sheffield which does proper, long form journalism about Sheffield issues - the kind of journalism that has largely disappeared from local media and a far cry from the 'you won't believe the size of Peter Kay's tits' type of clickbait that comprises the Star website.

You can sign up for a couple of free articles per week, or for £7 per month you get more articles. I've been getting the free ones for a few weeks now and the quality is good, so might upgrade to the paid version. Definitely worth a look if you want a lowdown on what's going on in our fair city.

The Tribune (link) is excellent. Dan Hayes (the editor) used to work for The Star and got disillusioned with the irrelevant click bait nonsense that media outlets were being forced to do so he left to make his own thing on the model of The Mill in Manchester.

The articles are proper local investigative, interesting and informative long form pieces and well worth subscribing to.

Similarly if you’re into nature, wildlife, the outdoors, active travel, etc, the David Bocking’s ‘It’s Looking A Bit Black Over Bill’s Mother’s’ blog is well worth following too: https://open.substack.com/pub/abitblackoverbillsmothers?r=jhgjc&utm_medium=ios (David Bocking does some excellent features for The Tribune and the Sheffield Telegraph amongst others — this is his own thing)

Thanks for that Deejay. I’m already subscribed to the Tribune, I’ve just added BOBM to my reading. Looks really interesting.

A model of how journalism for adults should be, it makes The Star seem like it's written by children.

And for children

Tbf a one point there would be a thread on here and then 3-4 days later there'd be an article in the Star...

Pretty sure the football section  regulars years back conspired together to make up a transfer rumour involving a player who didnt actually exist, to see if it made the paper. Guess what happened?

That was from Owlstalk.

They made up a whole history of a player called Terry Henfleet, a winger from Stoke that Wednesday were going to sign. He had a whole backstory and everything.

The Star picked it up and put it on the back page. It ended up in some national newspapers after that.
