Are Street Beggars Who Accept Card Payments Taking The Mickey?

Recommended Posts

Nowadays you can no longer use the excuse of saying you have no change when a street beggar asks you for money for a cup of tea because more and more so called street beggars are technology aware and have SumUp card machines.  Is someone with a mobile phone and a card machine really destitute?

In a word NO.
They’re not only taking the mickey they’re also trying to get your money.

So, they have bank accounts, which requires an address, not cheap mobiles AND a SumUp machine - which costs - they really are taking the p, if they exist.

Hang on. Surely it's only the Big Issue sellers that have these, for the purposes of selling said magazine?

If not, somebody tell Anna and Organgrinder where they are, they will be straight round with their debit cards.

My bold

I thought the same but a quick Google shows some banks do offer accounts to people with no fixed abode.

You never know what is around the corner. If the Tory party fail to win the next general election then the likelihood is there will be many more beggars on the street with SumUp machines. By the grace of god we all have been lucky to be blessed with a Tory government.

In Edinburgh 3 or 4 years ago around christmas time and there were nearly as many beggars as there were tourists. Most of the beggars had mobile phones and were quite obviously not living on the streets.Begging is now a job with prospects especially when claiming government benefits as well!I no longer give to these vermin and I do not donate to so called charities whose directors get paid more than senior government officials.Charity has to begin at home!!!
