Janus
UK Councils raise allotment rents to plug holes in their finances. Cheeky sods! 'Generally' a pastime of the working class on housing estates. Allotments are one way of keeping fit, active and socialising with like-minded people. What a travesty. https://www.telegraph.co.uk/property/uk/gardeners-fear-death-allotment-councils-raise-fees/ https://www.bbc.com/news/uk-scotland-glasgow-west-65205679 https://inews.co.uk/news/allotment-holders-turfed-out-councils-treble-fees-beloved-plots-2263071 Edited April 8, 2023 by Janus Links added
mart
I suspect the local councils want to drive allotment holders from the land. Then they can build flats. Residential properties generate income from council tax income. I don't know about Sheffield but in Rotherham there are quite a lot of blocks going up. Even the shops are being knocked down. mart
When you grow your own food you know whether or not there has been chemicals on it, unlike produce bought from shops.
