What's the best remedy for acid reflux & indigestion ?

Recommended Posts

When i was first diagnosed with a weak oesophagus about 2 years ago i was put on zantac and they really worked well but as it got worse i was put on lanzaprazole and they work wonders. I can`t be without them though. I can`t wait till i have an op in september to repair my hernia and sort out the oesophagus muscle. Fairly big op but if it means i can come off my tabs and eat normally after years of watching what i eat it will be worth it.

Nope, not a jot. The doc keeps telling me how important it is to have the endoscopy and I keep telling him how important it is that I dont have it. The pills take the pain away providing I take them on time so there isnt a problem here.

You do need to have the endoscopy........stop being a wuss Jabberwocky.

I've had an endoscopy 4 times...the first time at 16 and I was fully awake at all times......

They numb your throat making the camera easier to swallow...although you still end up gagging as you do swallow.....once in your fine and it doesn't take them long to do the tests that need to be done...........I was found to have polyps which was a result of ulcers......they took biopsies and one didn't look too good so I had to have another test 6 months later........everything is fine now although I am on ranitidine every day.........mine is all down to my stomach producing excess acid........their are tablets that make it worse and I for one was put on Zoton at first and it got to the stage where I had constant pain in my chest and couldn't even lie down at night, it was only when I had to come off them for 2 weeks to go for yet another test of a tube fed up my nose and down into my stomach and left there for 24 hours with a machine attatched to me that I realised all the pain had gone and I could eventually sleep. Thus being the reason I am now on milder tablets and have been a s right as rain.

My advice is to definately go and have it checked out.

Well the doc didnt mention ulcers, but told me that if I didnt get relief from the pills after a month or so then he`d consider a visit to the hospital and an endoscopy. That was several months ago and a few months ago he mentioned "weaning" me off of them. Then he mentioned the endoscopy. I said no the pills are fine, he said the pills are dangerous if used for too long, I said to get me to have an endoscopy would take a team of big game hunters with tranquillizer darts just to get me to stay still and he tried to scare me with talk of cancer and peritonitis and people dying of ulcers and in the end we came to an arrangement. I quit smoking, which I did, and he`d leave me alone for a while.

He still nags but as I mentioned before, it just isnt going to happen.

my grandaughter had a problem with gastric reflux for 3yrs ,tried all sorts of medication nothing worked she had repeated time off school they thought she was kidding them for time off in the end at the age of 14 they did an operation where they took part of her gullet away , twisted what was left and sewn it back to stop the reflux problem which worked at the time but they told her that it may start again and need redoing as she got older .and it has ,but she wont go back shes 20 now with 2 babies and wont leave them.

You have more chance of seeing me talk sense than in a waiting room of a hospital.

It aint gonna happen.

Nope.

Ask your Gp about having the Heliobacter pylori test.

And is a Heliobacter Pylori test carried out by a simple skin swab? Or a saliva test of some kind?

Cos if its any more than that, you know what I`m going to say, dont you?

:hihi:

The last I heard, it was a breath test, though I think they can do a blood test too to look for antibodies to H. pylori.
